I have inserted one on each side immediately outside the fly bar outer bearing and then put the fly bar pitch control lever back on, which gives me a displacement of around 3mm outwards for each connecting rod. The brass balls sit against the bearing very sweetly and the alignment looks really nice now, and there is absolutely no chance of any binding happening.
I have now had a chance to create a short video showing this mod in full detail for those that want to see how it all looks before diving in.
