Just popped out and had a fly with the tart as it is dead calm out there. Thundery clouds looming but it stayed dry. There was absolutely not a breath of air out there.

If the weather is ok tomorrow, I'll take the Mustang and the Tarot out to the field. Here's a nice video of the Mustang I have:

Link

Here's one of the Mustang with a Benedini sound system. Would love to stick that in but it's a tad expensive:

Looks good Rene !!
Just got back from the club and got the Hirobo Stork up in the air !! Wheeheee .....
Pretty chuffed about that.
There were only 4 of us today, AND 2 of them had PLANKS with them. Always fun to watch them though.
Totally forgot to video my flying, well, more hoovering against the wind. It is still pretty windy here in the Midlands. The Stork only has an old mechanical rate gyro and the tail was heavily weathervaning all the time so I had to fight it in order to keep it under control. But it's all working....well...was....The mechanical gyro decided to stop working and the tail just went out of control. I landed a bit too quick and tailrotor got stuck in the grass first, causing the belt to snap. never mind, I've got one spare !!! And I also have another old mechanical gyro. But that will be the last time I use this old vintage set-up. Transmitter/receiver/servo's and gyro all work fine but very slow to react. It's probably me wanting it to be faster....not used to this old stuff. Engine sounded really nice after a bit of tuning, running on 12% Coolpower. Getting the tracking right was also a bit hard, seemed to be different each time I flew a new tank, but got it right in the end. Flew four tanks al together.
Will start looking for new proper servo's/receiver and gyro, will also fit a topstarter, because this belt starting is really a real a pain in the ar$e !! Job for winter.
But happy in general, o yes !! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Cheers !!!

What's up Cloggie and Randalsh?

Still flying my Tart 500 although it's pretty much a Trex now. Full head and tail all Align. Not from wearing out the Tarot parts but found good deal on used head and always had the Align torque tube. Also new motor, Align 500M as the can came apart on the Typhoon motor several months ago. Could probably build another one from the parts I have.

Don't post on here much anymore but still check in to see what's going on and continue to fly. I too have gotten into planks. Have several warbirds and powered gliders but all four of my helis are flyable and I work them out every now and then.

Just wanted to say HI and hope all is going well for both of you.

Regards,

Donnie Very Happy

By the way Cloggie, nice P-51. That's a big one at 1700MM. Largest I have is 1400. I've seen that sound system and it's awesome. Makes it very realistic in the air from distance. As you said though, it's pretty expensive but so is that plane! Might as well add it on. Cool

Hi Donnie,

No it ain't cheap. Always wanted a plank but didn't want anything small with the kind of weather we get here. All this cheap knocked up Depron stuff is fun, but not for me. I used to fly 1/3 and 1/4 scale stuff years ago so even the Mustang is relatively small. Weighs in around 4kg so you don't have to worry about the wind too much.

Paid nearly £350 but it is complete with 10 servos, servoless retracts, motor and ESC so it is pretty much plug and go.

Hi Donnie.

Not flying the 500 so much at the moment. Just enough to keep the cobwebs away.
A back problems making walking a big problem at the moment so just buzzing around my garden with the 450s and mcpx at present. Hopefully it'll be back slapping clouds soon.
I'm not planning on going the plank route anytime soon. Maybe when I'm really old Razz

Indeed it was Randalsh !!! A few close shaves too of course........... Surprised Shocked

Yeah, bummer, sorry about that video, next time mate.

Next challenge is to get the original 1985 Shuttle in the air. Got two OS Max 28 engines, both will be reconditioned with new bearings and piston ring. Doing this onboard the ship next week, testing them in the workshop, setting up carburettor, using a 10x5 propellor. Just to get them run in etc. So hopefully ready to fly next month. I already have new Futaba 3003 servo's installed, a HK401G gyro, a Speccie receiver and Eneloop battery pack.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AptIpgL9uwE&feature=plcp
This is me testing an old OS MAX 35 FP plane engine that I got running again after it was left for scrap, completely seized up, covered in oily gunge. It's got a taper liner, no piston ring, and a brass bearing bush, no ball bearings. Got it to start just using 2 fingers. Such fun !! Workshop was filled with smoke setting of the fire alarms because I forgot the push the timer override. Laughing Sold it on Ebay 2 weeks ago for 15 quid.
And then there is the old Graupner Bell 212 to do........long term project.
All the best to everybody !!
Cheers guys.

My tarot 500 is up for sale. I'm only keeping the 450 pro as its compact and easy to lug to the field with my many planks Laughing

It doesnt come with servos/FBL controller/RX though. Still too cheap?

TBH i still fly my 450 pro alot but i never fly the 500 any more. It looks fantastic sat there on the shelf but I'm frightened of crashing it! So i am pulling any parts which i can use in another model and selling everything else.

Watch this video of a plank... I have lots to learn Smile

With a view to using 3300mah LiPos an not wanting to hack the frame down any..
I looked into a larger 500ex canopy. It gives the extra room without the butchery.. £12.00 from HK..Bargin I think.. Smile

The frame mod is partly to make the batt fit, but also to lower the C of G. There's a lot of extra weight in the bigger batts.
Having said that, the 500 can probably handle it Wink

Thanks

lol..I'll use the old canopy (mod it) or just leave it off whilst I maiden it (not ideal)..

Thanks for the offer on the lipo's mate...But I'll have to turn it down for now.
Thanks for the offer though.. Very Happy

My 450's have started to look a little small.. Sitting next to the Tart..lol Smile

Just one other thing..Is a BEC adviseable..??
To get anywhere near the torque thats recomended off of the Turnigy servo's theyv'e got to run at 6V for an FBL setup...
Although the Hobbywing esc can run them a 6v..Is the ESC enough to run them..??

Well I'd say so. But if you do go for it. keep an eye on those servos.
Whilst they are good for the flybared 500.
They are outside the minimum specs for what align recommends on an FBL 500.
I've just had to replace mine with some new align DS 515M's on cyclic because my turnigy equivalents to the tower pro one's on that 500, developed a bucket load of slop.
