500 size sea king

by backflipinfreak » Sun Jan 24, 2010 5:06 pm

Just started work on my 500 size sea king from smartmodel and thought i would start a bit of a thread on the build. This is not my first scale project but the first scale that is not just remove the skids and put the heli inside.I went for a gel coat fuse so i can use my own colour scheme and decals. Here are some pics of the parts.

hey anti_a.The fuse cost £150 for the gel coat version.Painted versions are available at a higher price but takes away half of the fun.lol.

here is an update on the build so far.

ahhh i see.cheers rich and thanks for getting things sorted.
update.
holes were drilled in the pontoons for the nav lights.here is a pic of the nav light in place.they really are quite bright.
Image

pontoons and struts glued in place.you can also see the sliding door rails that have been added.just 2 pieces of plastic to allow the door to open and close.not sure yet if i am going to attach it to the servo so it opens and closes with the retracts.
Image

Started working on a cockpit for the heli.the base is cut from a piece of plasticard and sits just above the battery.as you can see from the pics the pilot is now an amputee due to the battery taking up alot of room.
Image

you can see the battery just under the cockpit floor.

Hi backflipingfreak,
Was the photo of the right hand pontoon with the Red nav light a spot the deliberate mistake  or was it just the first colour to hand to try out the effect of the nav lights, as i was told a good way to remember the orientation of nav lights [not much port LEFT in the bottle] that aside thanks for sharing your build experience with lots of pics, i am particularly interested because i have a seaking fuse on order from smartmodel.hk, like you i chose the gel coat version.
please keep up the good work. :D

Progressing very nicely.

It is good to see a build that includes crew. I have found a 1/10 scale figure for my (450) Huges 500 - a wrestler chappie in the Argos bargin stock clear out. He has been a bit problematical though as he has/had a physique that would make you think "He Man" would get sand kicked in his face.

A bit of a crash diet (with a grinder) has brought him down to more human proportions but he is still a bit heavy so next job is drilling out all the flesh from the back of his limbs.
